The Ross Fountain Co

Posted on September 5, 2022 by admin

The ross fountain co is one of the oldest fountain companies in the world. However, it has undergone some significant damage due to corrosion, vandalism, and accidental occurrences. Because of this, it needed major repairs. The repair process involved removing some of the components and replacing them with new ones.

Restoration of ross fountain co

The Ross Fountain in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens has undergone a major restoration project to improve its condition and aesthetics. The project includes a new foundation and water handling system, as well as a complete strip down and repaint. The new colour scheme replaces the faded bronze and gilding with vibrant, fresh colours.

The restoration of the fountain was made possible through the support of Edinburgh World Heritage. The restoration of this historic landmark involved restoring all 122 of its individual pieces. It also included a specialist team from Wigan. They incorporated new supporting plinths and upstanding walls to ensure the fountain could withstand 100 tons of water.

The fountain was originally crafted in a French foundry in the early 1800s. Local gunsmith Daniel Ross first saw it in a London exhibition and bought it. He later gifted it to the city. However, the fountain’s installation in the gardens was delayed for a number of reasons, including protests from an outraged minister who deemed the statues to be grossly indecent and insulting to moral feelings. Despite the challenges associated with this project, a new fountain is now set to be installed in Princes Street Gardens by the founder of Apex Hotels.

The Ross Fountain is a landmark in Edinburgh, and it was once a popular picture location. The iconic Fountain was also watched over by the famous Edinburgh Castle. However, over time, its original paint and water feature became unusable. This is when the restoration process was needed to bring the Fountain back to its former glory.

During the restoration process, a new underwater LED lighting system was installed to provide illumination at night. The new lighting will allow people to enjoy the fountain even during wintertime. In total, the project involved over 40,000 hours of work, 650 litres of paint, and a new water system.

Restoration of ross fountain structure

The restoration of the iconic Ross Fountain in Edinburgh is now complete. After extensive piling and ground beam engineering, Thomson Gray has completed the project. The next step is the reconstruction of the plinths, upstands, and pools. The company is working with AED (Structural & Civil Engineers) and Kelsen Technical Ltd.

The restoration of the structure will cost around PS2 million. It will include a new pump, foundations, and paintwork. The restoration is expected to last for the next 20 years or more. The new pump will ensure that the fountain is permanently switched on. It will also be protected from water damage.

Located in the West Princes Street Gardens, the Ross Fountain is one of only three Grade A-listed fountains in Scotland. It was originally displayed in London in the early 1800s. It is made of iron and was created by the French foundry Antoine Durenne. Despite being over 150 years old, the fountain has only worked intermittently in its entire life. This made the restoration project even more critical as the fountain was in poor condition.
