You may have heard of Patrizia Reggiani, formerly known as Patrizia Martinelli, but aren’t sure if she’s related to Aldo Gucci’s daughter. She was born on 2 December 1948 and is no relation to the famous designer. She was found guilty of hiring a hitman to kill her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci. In spite of her conviction, she has since been freed and is now living a quiet life.
Patrizia was released in 2014 from prison after being sentenced to 29 years in prison for the murder of her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci. However, she had a brain tumor and asked for her conviction to be vacated. This led to her appeals court reducing her sentence to 26 years. She attempted suicide, but was found by prison guards.
While serving her sentence, Reggiani was working as a design consultant for an Italian costume jewelry firm. In the years following her release, she has maintained her innocence and stated that she was wrongly convicted. In the media, she has been branded the “Black Widow” because of the way she orchestrated her ex-husband’s murder.

Soon she became a socialite and befriended Jackie Kennedy Onassis. She later married Maurizio Reggiani. Reggiani’s book Game Over, published by Scribner in 2007, is the first memoir by the Italian fashion designer. It has a tragic history. In 1997, Reggiani was jailed with others for ordering a hitman to kill Gucci. She spent her time in prison talking about her life and the murder of her husband, but she also shared her feelings about the case. She helped fellow inmates with their hair and even tended a garden.
