During her time at Stanford, Katya Ariel Tylo has been through a lot. She has lost her son to cancer, she has battled with wrongful termination in the workplace, and she has dealt with pregnancy and career struggles. In this article, she shares her story with you.
Career
Besides her acting career, Tylo has also published two autobiographies: Making a Miracle (2000; also known as Life with a Vision) and Making a Miracle (2000; also known in Finland as Life with a Vision). She has also been awarded the Telvis Award for the Most Popular Television Star in Finland. She has appeared in several films and television series, including Guiding Light, General Hospital, Baywatch and Another World.
Tylo was married to Gersson Archila in 2009. The pair married in a private ceremony in Las Vegas in 2009. The couple has been together for seven years.
Tylo graduated from Springtown High School in 1980, and was enrolled at Fordham University in the Bronx, New York, to pursue a medical degree. Her plan was to become a pre-med student, but she was frustrated with her lack of success in soap operas. She was fired from Melrose Place after getting pregnant. She then filed a lawsuit against producer Aaron Spelling for discriminating against her because she was pregnant. The case was settled for $4.8 million by a Los Angeles jury.
Pregnancy
Despite being diagnosed with retinoblastoma, Katya Ariel Tylo is now a healthy, happy, and strong little girl. Doctors were amazed that she was able to overcome this rare form of cancer. She was only three months old when doctors discovered the disease. Katya will need chemotherapy to treat the tumors behind her remaining eye.
Tylo was first cast on Melrose Place in 1996. Her contract stated she could not make any changes to her appearance while she was filming. She appeared on the show for about two years before her contract expired.
In 2005, she returned to the show as a series regular. After leaving the show, Tylo filed a lawsuit against Aaron Spelling, the show’s producer, for pregnancy discrimination. She was awarded a $4,9 million settlement.
Legal battle against wrongful termination
‘Melrose Place’ actress Hunter Tylo made headlines in the 1990’s by staking a claim to the title of best actress in a primetime soap opera. But that’s not all she’s done. She’s also been responsible for helping pass California State Bill AB218. This legislation is supposed to prevent preventable blindness and preventable fatal diseases.

Struggle with cancer
Despite Tylo’s struggle with cancer, she is now cancer free. She wears a prosthetic right eye. She has been fighting a rare form of eye cancer called retinoblastoma.

Death of her son
Despite Katya Ariel Tylo’s rare form of eye cancer, she recovered from the battle. She lost the ability to see in her right eye, but the tumor disappeared mysteriously. Tylo credits prayer for her daughter’s recovery.
