With the help of a friend from high school, he formed the Beaver Brown Band. Other members of the band included saxophonist Michael Antunes, keyboardist Robert Cotoia, guitarist Gary Grammolini, bassist Pat Lupo, and drummer Kenny Jo Silva.

The band continued to perform as a five-piece, and Cafferty took the lead guitar. The band’s popularity continued to increase, and they played to packed houses. The band also began to introduce original songs. Cafferty, the band’s conceptual center, began writing material based on his influences and life in southern New England. The band began working the originals into their shows, and the response from audiences was very positive.

He had a solo hit with “Hearts On Fire”

Before becoming a solo star, John Cafferty was part of a rock band called The Beaver Brown Band. He had solo success with his song “Hearts on Fire.” That song was featured in the Sylvester Stallone movie Rocky IV. The track topped the Billboard Rock chart for five weeks.
